Eva Andreou – 2025 Basketball NT High Performance Program

Sponsored by Taverners NT | Pillar: Female Participation in Sport

Overview

In line with our commitment to growing female participation in sport, Taverners NT proudly sponsored Eva Andreou with a contribution toward her involvement in the 2025 Basketball NT High Performance Program. This program offered Eva the opportunity to train at the prestigious Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) in Canberra and compete against top-tier teams from Basketball ACT.

Eva’s Experience

Eva’s week at the AIS was nothing short of transformative. From early morning wake-ups to late afternoon games, her days were filled with high-intensity training, learning, and personal growth.

  • Daily Training: Each morning began with breakfast in the AIS dining hall, followed by three-hour training sessions focusing on individual and team skills like shooting, ball handling, and defence. The rigorous sessions demanded discipline, teamwork, and total effort.

  • Competition: Eva and her team faced off against ACT squads in two competitive matches. Despite narrow losses, the experience tested their resilience and built camaraderie within the group.

  • Education & Recovery: The program integrated educational workshops on the physical and mental demands of elite sport. Recovery sessions in hot and cold pools helped players physically reset and understand the importance of athlete wellbeing.

  • Elite Insight: A highlight of the week was a scouting session led by Mel Downer, Assistant Coach at Basketball Australia's Centre of Excellence. This session deepened Eva’s understanding of strategic gameplay and opponent analysis.

  • Cultural Experience: The program wrapped up with a chance to explore Canberra, visit the local shopping centre, and reflect on a week of personal and athletic development.

"Your support made this one-of-a-kind sporting experience possible, and I’m incredibly grateful. I’ve learned so much and grown both as a player and as a person." — Eva Andreou

Eva’s story is a testament to the powerful role that grassroots sponsorship can play in elevating female athletes. By helping to remove financial barriers, Taverners NT enables talented young sportswomen like Eva to access elite opportunities that inspire long-term growth and achievement. Thank You

We extend our thanks to Eva for representing the Northern Territory with pride, and we look forward to watching her journey continue on and off the court.
